Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee
Yesterday [February 28], the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety met for a public hearing and went over a variety of bills. I had specific concerns regarding AB 55, which increases the criminal penalties for reckless driving. Click on the photo above to hear me ask the mayor of Milwaukee how we can expect judges to enforce these new penalties when there are violent crimes, such as rape, going unpunished.
Miss America Visits Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant
I was happy to help welcome Miss America Grace Stanke to the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant last week. Not only is she Miss America, but she is also a student at UW -Madison in Nuclear Engineering. It is such an honor to have a talented and intelligent young woman represent Wisconsin and the United States of America. I look forward to witnessing all that she accomplishes!
FYI – Licensing Changes Coming Soon
The White House has announced that it plans to end the Presidential national emergency proclamation on May 11, 2023. Accordingly, a temporary license for a person who applied for the temporary license without also applying for a regular license will expire 30 days after that, on June 10, 2023.
To sum it up, if a person has a 2021 Act 10 license only under the Presidential national emergency proclamation that’s ending in May, all they need to do is apply for the regular license, and DSPS will be able to identify and manage the files to maintain the person’s 2021 Act 10 active license status while the regular application is pending.
