Week two of “what we got done for you!”
One big change that will help remove barriers for service animal owners in our state is Senate Bill 728, now 2023 Act 189.
This idea came to us from a Neenah constituent who noticed a license tax was charged for her granddaughter’s service dog. Per the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals are supposed to be exempt.
Wisconsin statutes on the tax exemption had not been updated since the mid-80s, leading to confusion among municipalities who relied on outdated language. Act 189 aligns Wisconsin’s fee exemption with the ADA, ensuring that diabetic alert, seizure alert, and other service animals are included.
My staff and I were also happy to meet with:
- Ladies of SCI
- UW-Superior
- Ranger Power
- Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance
Next week, I look forward to many more meetings in our area!
