Appleton City Council Update: April 19, 2026

I suspect that more than a couple of homeowners on roads scheduled for reconstruction will be present and object to the narrowing of their streets, proposed new parking restrictions on their streets (due to this narrowing), the loss of terrace trees along their streets due to the construction process, and, for a couple of these streets, the addition of sidewalks along the roadways. 

The Case for a New Town-Wide Reassessment

It is important that we all pay our fair share for the municipal services we receive, but if property values are not calculated accurately, all fairness is lost. Accuracy is the foundation of a fair reassessment. The fairness of the Grand Chute Reassessment performed in 2025 needs to be questioned.

IRG Files Complaint Over DPI’s Secret Meeting to Lower Testing Standards

If a court ultimately finds that DPI’s actions violated the Open Meetings Law, the result could be the invalidation of the lowered standards. The court could also require DPI to reconvene and properly adopt new testing benchmarks in a forum open to the public.

Report on October Meeting with the Mayor

On October 21, 2025, several representatives of Appleton Concerned Taxpayers (ACT) met with Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford. We discussed several items of concern with respect to the city budget, including questions about wastewater and stormwater expenses in the 2026 budget and debt service increases. We also discussed the "Stop the Noise" project and other non-budget-related matters.

A Door-Knocking Conversation

In the end, we agreed that we had different political views and that they wouldn’t sign my paperwork. We wished each other a Merry Christmas and shook hands. I left the conversation stating that this was why I had a Charlie Kirk sign. We were able to have a frank exchange of ideas, not get upset with each other and still part on good terms.

19th Senate District Update: April 17, 2026

Wisconsin State Sen. Rachael Cabral-Guevara met with several representatives of the Wisconsin Association of Snowmobile Clubs, as well as representatives for the Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin and Save Our States Action.
