Appleton City Council Update: May 3, 2026

A resolution regarding Ranked Choice Voting came to the Appleton City Council a few weeks ago and is still up for final discussion and a vote by the full common council.  The Safety and Licensing Committee recommended against the resolution, and alderman Sheri Hartzheim agrees: I do not believe that this council can speak for the citizens of Appleton to affirm this resolution.

Declining Civility

Today, the fundamental civil contract is being eroded, causing the dangerous divisions we witness across the country. These days, it is almost impossible for citizens of differing viewpoints to have reasoned, civil conversations about policy issues. Much of this disagreement stems from the politicized emphasis on diversity.

The Education War: Part Two

If your school board fails to answer your very reasonable questions, they do not have the best interest of YOUR children at heart. They are simply flunkies of the FOR-PROFIT education industry and need to be replaced by those who actually care: parents.

Report on October Meeting with the Mayor

On October 21, 2025, several representatives of Appleton Concerned Taxpayers (ACT) met with Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford. We discussed several items of concern with respect to the city budget, including questions about wastewater and stormwater expenses in the 2026 budget and debt service increases. We also discussed the "Stop the Noise" project and other non-budget-related matters.

A Door-Knocking Conversation

In the end, we agreed that we had different political views and that they wouldn’t sign my paperwork. We wished each other a Merry Christmas and shook hands. I left the conversation stating that this was why I had a Charlie Kirk sign. We were able to have a frank exchange of ideas, not get upset with each other and still part on good terms.

56th Assembly District Update: May 5, 2026

Representatives from the UW Alumni Association visited the office of State Rep. Dave Murphy on their lobby day. Rep. Murphy's staff talked to them about housing issues and capital improvement projects.

Court Grants WILL Motion, Dismisses Second Redistricting Case

A three-judge panel today granted WILL’s motion to dismiss, ending a lawsuit brought against Wisconsin’s current congressional maps. The case brought an “anti-competitive gerrymandering” claim that has not been recognized by any court and would have many unintended consequences.
