Appleton, WI News Updates

Appleton City Council Update: June 28, 2026

The Appleton Public Arts Committee will meet to consider a request to approve a Peace Pole in Ellen Kort Peace Park.  The pole says "May Peace Prevail on Earth" (in several languages) and is made to the standard of many others that have been installed worldwide after a Japanese gentleman was inspired to create it post-World War II after the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.

Assumptions Based on Questions Never Asked Is Not Good Government

Our town government exists to serve our residents. Direction regarding development in the town should, therefore, come from residents. Our town government should take the time to understand the true wishes of our current Grand Chute residents, as a whole, before embarking on municipal building projects and a housing initiative that may be inconsistent with those wishes.

What’s Missing from Education?

No matter where you get it from, isn’t “Self-Governance,” the ability to independently live your life, what “Education” is (or should be) all about? If you do not achieve “Self-Governance,” then what? Are you destined to be dependent on someone else or everyone else?

Thrivent TID Is a Pancake with Two Sides

I have questions about the Wilden Portfolio Park development (at Thrivent) and the proposal that Appleton create a 14th Tax Incremental District (TID) to help incentivize this development. The Appleton City Council should consider both sides of this pancake. The colorful sprinkles presented by Thrivent’s request to create a Tax ID are all obtainable without a TID.

A Door-Knocking Conversation

In the end, we agreed that we had different political views and that they wouldn’t sign my paperwork. We wished each other a Merry Christmas and shook hands. I left the conversation stating that this was why I had a Charlie Kirk sign. We were able to have a frank exchange of ideas, not get upset with each other and still part on good terms.

Congressman Tony Wied’s Update: June 26, 2026

The REAL Butter Act would require that fake butter be clearly labeled as "lab-created butter" directly on the product, so consumers are not confused about what they are buying. This commonsense legislation would protect consumers and ensure they can make informed decisions when choosing healthy, real dairy-based butter. If lab-created butter reaches grocery store shelves, Americans deserve to know exactly what it is, how it was made, and where it came from.

IRG Sues DPI Over Wisconsin Dells $368,885 Secret Meeting

The Institute for Reforming Government (IRG) is taking the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to court. The lawsuit asks the court to declare the secret meeting held in the Wisconsin Dells violated Wisconsin’s Open Meetings Law and to void any actions DPI took as a result of the conference committees’ “recommendations.”

“The key to wisdom is this: constant and frequent questioning, for by doubting we are led to question, by questioning we arrive at the truth.”

On Monday, July 6, Fox Valley Initiative will feature two speakers: Laura Ackmann of Moms for Liberty and Carolyn Pierre of Guardian School Consulting [invited]. Both organizations are working to protect children from sexual predators in schools.
