Week four of “what we got done for you!”
One change that will help Wisconsin’s healthcare workforce is Senate Bill 671, now 2023 Act 183.
Act 183 is a simple law that will expand opportunities to get more nurse aides in the workforce by cutting unnecessary red tape. Currently, the Department of Health Services allows nursing students to start working prior to taking their certification test, but only if they work full-time. This results in an untapped labor market of trained professionals that can fill critical gaps if they are unable to commit to 40+ hour work weeks.
Act 183 will allow these students to enter the workforce part-time before taking their exam. Though it may seem like a small change, it removes an barriers and moves folks into critical care settings more efficiently.
My staff and I were also happy to meet with:
- Wisconsin Association of College Admissions Counseling
- Winneconne Middle School
- Winneconne Elementary School
- Winneconne Town Supervisors
- Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region
- Eagle Point Senior Living
Next week, I look forward to many more meetings in our area!
