19th Senate District Update: July 14, 2023

It was a busy week in-district and in the legislature! I welcomed our new in-district intern to the Capitol, so if you see Emily with Sydney in and around the district, be sure to stop by and say “Hi!”

This Wednesday, I met with the Senate Committee on Health to hear public comments on two bills:

  • Senate Bill 121 is a bill that I’ve authored alongside Rep. Gustafson that would reduce the financial toll on women who have dense breast tissue, which often complicates and prevents early breast cancer detection. Thank you to everyone from around the state who sent in their support! This is truly a live-saving bill that can reduce costs in the long run—both for patients and Wisconsin’s healthcare system. [Click here for the WisEye report on that hearing.]
  • Senate Bill 211 would permit pharmacists to prescribe certain contraceptives. This has been an issue particularly in rural areas with shortages of prescribers.

Additionally, I was able to tour Gunderson Cleaning, which is headquartered in Menasha, with Representatives Gustafson and Snodgrass! Successful local businesses are vital to both our regional and state’s economy. I look forward to working with our small business owners as we move forward!

DATCP Accepting Grant Applications

The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection noticed on July 11 that the department will be accepting grant applications for “Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin.”

This is a competitive grant that is designed to strengthen Wisconsin’s agriculture and food industries through helping farms and business process and sell locally grown food products; according to DATCP.

Qualified applicants include individuals, groups, or businesses involved in Wisconsin production agriculture, food processing, food distribution, and more! For more information, please go here.
