19th Senate District Update: July 7, 2023

The legislature made a commitment to Wisconsin taxpayers, a committment that we would cut taxes and return our historic surplus back to your pockets. This plan would have returned $3.5 billion of our surplus back to you, at an average of $573 per Wisconsin filer.

Unfortunately this week when the Governor signed our state’s budget into law, he used his partial veto power to gut middle class income tax cuts. So much so, that the average filer’s cut went from $573 to just… $37. I am disappointed that he would backtrack on his promises to deliver meaningful tax cuts.

Additionally, the Governor cut provisions of the “Talent Attraction and Retention Initiatives” that would have helped ensure effective spending, and consultation with Wisconsin’s Department of Veteran Affairs to help recruit veterans to our state.

Though I’m disappointed with these vetoes, I was happy to see local projects get some support. Because of the initiative of local leaders and our office, the Appleton International Airport is receiving $7 million in state funding to expand their terminal. This will result in positive economic impacts for our area and around the state.
