19th Senate District Update: March 22, 2024

This week was a busy one! I was happy to meet with several police and fire chiefs that are new to the 19th Senate District and the governor signed a flurry of bills that were sent to him.

Seven bills I was proud to lead the fight on were signed in to law, including bills that cut red tape, support veterans, and protect our kids:

  • Senate Bill 261 requires parental consent for 16 and 17 year olds who want to utilize a tanning facility. This gives parents the opportunity to educate their child on the potential risk factors involved. Additionally, requiring proper informational signage at tanning facilities will allow both parents and their children to properly educate themselves of the potential dangers.
  • Senate Bill 373 clarifies that no license is needed to sell over-the-counter hearing aids.
  • Assembly Bill 385 will add Hmong veterans admitted to the United States under the Hmong Veterans’ Naturalization Act to the definition of “veteran” for the purposes of the status on state ID cards. Recognizing these veterans who served alongside our armed forces against communism is an important step in the right direction.
  • Senate Bill 671 would allow nursing assistant students to work part-time as they finish their certification.
  • Senate Bill 728 would remove an unnecessary burden for individuals with disabilities and would also align Wisconsin law with federal ADA guidelines.
  • Senate Bill 788 would allow chiropractors to delegate services that are preparatory or complementary including taking and preparing preliminary patient histories or providing physiotherapy treatment.
  • Assembly Bill 793, which would expand and improve 529 education savings accounts, was signed into law on Thursday.

I am proud to have partnered with so many folks to get these across the finish line. If you have an idea on how to make our community a better place, please reach out!

My staff and I were also happy to meet with:

  • Wisconsin Department of Transportation
  • City of Weyauwega Police Department
  • Manawa Police Department
  • Oshkosh Fire Department
  • Survival Coalition of Wisconsin
  • Wisconsin Hospital Association

Next week, I look forward to many more meetings in our area!
