19th Senate District Update: May 24, 2024

This week, we return to week seven of “what we got done for you!”

Senate Bill 373, now 2023 Act 179, clarifies existing statutes and catches us up with new federal regulations on over-the-counter hearing aids. This Act will help improve affordability, accessibility, and a higher quality of life for hearing impaired Wisconsinites.

Evolving federal rules around ordering, selling, and fitting hearing aids warranted a change in our state statutes. With over-the-counter hearing aids becoming more common in the marketplace, Act 179 would clarify that no license is needed to sell them.

This Act more closely mirrors the federal language on “ordering” hearing aids and makes a clear distinction in statutes between over-the-counter devices and prescription hearing aids.

This week I also attended Menasha Corporation’s 175-year celebration. It was great to see the facility, participate in the program, and speak with employees.

I also had the opportunity to tour Maple Ridge Farm in New London, owned by Jen Corcoran. It was a great opportunity to learn about her work with world champion American Saddlebreds!

My staff and I were also happy to meet with:

  • Menasha Corporation
  • New London Mayor Herter
  • New London City Administrator Hoerth
  • Wisconsin Hospital Association
  • Maple Ridge Farm

Next week, I look forward to many more meetings in our area!

Wisconsin State Sen. Rachael Cabral-Guevara visited Maple Ridge Farm in New London.
Thank you to Jen at Maple Ridge Farm in New London for showing us around this week!
