Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday! Motherhood is one of the greatest gifts I’ve experienced in my life, and it’s important to celebrate all the moms in our lives.
The Senate Education Committee held a public hearing this week, where three of the bills I authored were heard. These include increasing access to public high schools for military recruiters (Senate Bill 10), allowing representatives of certain federally chartered youth membership organizations to provide information to pupils on public school property (Senate Bill 11), and making referendum questions more transparent for voters (Senate Bill 58). These important bills will increase access to schools for military recruiters and organizations like the Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and many more. Senate Bill 58 is an important piece of legislation that will provide more information to voters and increase transparency in local referenda.
The Senate Mental Health Committee held a joint hearing with the Assembly to discuss bills related to child sexual abuse prevention education, child support, grants to child advocacy centers, and an optional final hearing by affidavit for the dissolution of a marriage.
Lastly, happy Nurses Week!
We were also happy to meet with the:
- Wisconsin Bankers Association regarding their progress implementing legislation passed last session.
- Create Wisconsin about budget priorities this session.
- UW-La Crosse about budget priorities this session.
- Waupaca Common Council and the League of Wisconsin Municipalities about supporting their legislative initiatives.
