Testify in Committee on Campaigns and Elections
Yesterday, April 8th, I testified in the Committee on Campaigns and Elections on AB 149.
AB 149 is a bill I wrote that protects political third parties from frivolous lawsuits by allowing the chairperson of the party’s state committee to nominate their presidential electors.
During the November election cycle, the Democratic National Committee sought to prevent the Green Party ballot access on the presidential ticket, citing that their party does not have any state office holders to nominate presidential electors in Wisconsin. Ultimately, the Wisconsin Supreme Court did not hear the lawsuit, and Jill Stein remained on the ballot.
I believe that no political candidate should be restricted ballot access and discouraged to run because their respective party has not won a political office yet.
Committee on Regulatory Licensing Reform Public Hearing
Today, April 9th, the committee I chair on regulatory licensing reform met for a public hearing on one bill.
AB 45 bill ratifies and enters Wisconsin into the Dietitian Licensure Compact, which provides for the ability of a dietitian to become eligible to practice in other compact states through licensing.
In order for a compact to be established, seven states must enact legislation joining the licensing compact. At this time, three states have enacted legislation to join the dietitian compact—Alabama, Nebraska and Tennessee.
Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety Public Hearing
Today, April 9th, there was a Criminal Justice Public Hearing on three bills, one of which was my own.
AB 26Â alters the current language in state statute to protect jurors and their families while they are still convened and deliberating. Current statute only applies once the verdict or indictment is reached.
I wrote this legislation to ensure that everyone in Wisconsin has the opportunity for a fair trial by a jury, as guaranteed by the 6th Amendment of the United States Constitution as well as the Wisconsin Constitution.
AB 65 raises the penalty for breaking into somebody’s apartment or house and entering with intent to commit battery to be a Class F Felony.
AB 143Â increases penalties for vehicle owners who allow someone to drive without a valid license.

If you missed it in my last e-update, here are the three dates for my listening sessions in May:
The first two will be on May 5th. The first will be at 10 a.m. at the Rockland Town Hall (1712 Bob Bea Jan Rd, De Pere) with special guest Rep. Ben Franklin.
The second will be later in the evening also on the 5th, at 5:30 p.m. at the Reedsville Village Hall (217 Menasha St, Reedsville) with special guest Rep. Ron Tusler.
Lastly, I will be hosting a third listening session on May 10th at 10 a.m. at the Francis Creek Village Hall (200 Norwood Dr, Francis Creek)Â with special guest, Senator Andre Jacque.

Saturday, April 19th, there will be Pancakes with the Easter Bunny at the Two Rivers Community House from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and then an Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. at Neshotah Park.
Saturday, April 19th, there will be a Easter Egg Hunt and Bake Sale at Wrightstown Middle School starting at 10 a.m.
