2nd Assembly District Update: February 12, 2025

ESOP Legislation Circulating the Capitol

On February 6th, one of my first bills of the new session was officially introduced. This legislation deals with Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs).

Simply put, an ESOP is a program that allows employees to become partial owners of the company they work for by acquiring shares of the company’s stock. This legislation creates tax incentives (tax credits and capital gain deductions) for Wisconsin businesses that convert to an ESOP.

ESOPs have been shown to keep jobs local, increase productivity, increase job security, improve employee retention, and much more. These are great reasons for Wisconsin to encourage and incentivize these structures to benefit our economy and communities.

So far, this legislation has received a lot of bipartisan support. I will be sure to share updates as it makes its way through committee, and then, hopefully, the floor to vote on.


St. Ignatius School Tour (2/10)

This past Monday I had the privilege of touring St. Ignatius in Kaukauna. During this visit, I toured the school, met with directors of business and special education, and discussed with a class of students what it is like to serve in public office.

During my time there, each class I visited memorized and presented different recitations for me. I was impressed by all, but the class in the photo above stood out the most as they recited from my favorite document, the Declaration of Independence.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their Safety and Happiness.”

Chili and Brats—Yum!

Before the tour on Monday, I was at St. Ignatius this past Saturday as well for a chili fundraiser (photo above). Delicious food, and a great pick-me-up for a snowy day!

Wisconsin State Rep. Shae Sortwell attended the Wrightstown American Legion Brat Fry.

I also made sure to swing by the Wrightstown American Legion Brat Fry fundraiser on Saturday as well. It was a delicious day!


Listening Session Thank You

Thank you to all who attended Rep. Goeben’s and my listening session in Kaukauna this past Monday. We enjoyed chatting with all who showed up and are appreciative of the opportunity to have open dialogue with the constituents of the 2nd and 5th Assembly Districts.

As previously mentioned, there will be more listening sessions to come in the next few months. I will be sure to share updates as they come through my e-updates and social media pages.

In-District Events

Saturday, February 15th, will be a Rummage Sale and Chicken Booyah with the Maribel Sportsman’s Club (8482 WI-147, Maribel) starting at 10 a.m.

Saturday, February 22nd, will be the Holy Family’s 2nd Annual Father Daughter Dance (1100 W Ryan St., Brillion) at 6 p.m.

Sunday, February 23rd, will be the De Pere Sportsman’s Club Winter Carnival (3623 Club Drive, De Pere). Booyah starts at 10 a.m. with the meat raffles from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and main raffles starting at 3 p.m.

Saturday, March 8th, will be the Two Rivers 5th Annual Trap Shoot (Westshore Sportsman’s Club) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
