2nd Assembly District Update: March 6, 2024

Governor Evers Vetoes Major Tax Relief

Hello all! Today I have some unfortunate news to share. In a previous e-update, I discussed legislation drafted and passed by Republicans that would provide major tax relief for 54% of those who file taxes in Wisconsin. In case you’re not sure what legislation I am referring to, click here to visit the e-update that explains these bills in depth. As an update, last week, we saw Evers veto these tax cuts for the middle class, retirees, and married couples.

Although I cannot say I am entirely surprised, I am tremendously disappointed with the governor’s decision. These bills offered practical solutions for a very serious issue, and it is discouraging to see that once again, Evers has failed the people of Wisconsin by not taking action to help reduce taxes.

The Long-Awaited Update on the Legislative Maps

Wisconsin State Rep. Shae Sortwell offers an update regarding what our future legislative maps are going to look like.

Alright folks, I finally have an update I can share with you regarding what our future maps are going to look like. Within the past couple weeks, Governor Evers signed AB 415, now known as Wisconsin Act 94, into law. What this means is that we are going to see a pretty big change in who I will be representing come November.

To start, I will be losing Two Rivers, De Pere, and the Town of Lawrence. Under the new maps, Two Rivers will go to the 25th Assembly District, which is currently represented by Paul Tittl; De Pere will go to the 88th Assembly District, which is currently represented by John Macco; and the Town of Lawrence will go to the 5th Assembly District, which is currently represented by Joy Goeben.

It has been an honor to serve these communities, and I’m grateful for the time I was given to represent them. Over the past five and a half years, I have been able to form hundreds of personal relationships with many of you, and that is not something I take lightly. I will always cherish the time I spent representing these areas and plan to stay in touch. Although I am disappointed to lose this part of my district, I am also very excited to gain new constituents and continue forming new connections!

I will be picking up a lot of the areas that I represented prior to this term. This includes New Denmark, Denmark, Kellnersville, Francis Creek, Kossuth, Franklin, Ledgeview, and the eastern half of Rockland. I will continue to represent Holland, Wrightstown, Morrison, Cooperstown, Maribel, Gibson/Larabee, Mishicot, Greenleaf, and Two Creeks. For the first time ever, I will now represent Kimberly, Combined Locks, Buchanan, Maple Grove, Reedsville, Glenmore, and the southern half of Kaukauna.

Although there are a lot of moving parts, I will continue to keep you informed moving forward as best as I can. Please feel free to reach out to my office with any questions as well.
