Alright friends, let’s finish up session from February 20th!

AB 834 allows Community Health Systems (CHS), as an Ag business, to build a brand-new soy bean processing facility in the City of Evansville, WI, by enacting specific changes to Wisconsin’s Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) laws.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 135.

AB 898 requires the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to establish a model civics curriculum for grades K-12, and it includes a high school graduation requirement of .5 credits in civics.

AB 900 decouples funding for school choice students and independent charter schools from local property taxes to GPR.

AB 917 defines an “unsafe lighter” and prohibits their sale while adding no additional punishment or fees onto retailers.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 271.

AB 919 provides a $200,000 annual grant over the biennium to the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center (HERC) so they can continue providing Holocaust educational programs that support 2021 Act 30.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 248.

AB 933 would allow for the transfer of Angel Investment tax credits.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 145.

AB 937 recommends the inclusion of cursive writing in the model academic standards for English language arts by the state superintendent of public instruction.

AB 950 will legalize testing strips that detect the drug xylazine.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 217.

AB 968 is the funding for AB 542 that provides grants to schools for the purpose of acquiring proactive firearm detection software systems.

I voted no on this legislation because it funded the detecting software legislation I voted against.

AB 982 extends the life of Tax Incremental District #4 in the City of Antigo.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 137.

AB 983 would raise the total equalized value threshold to 15 percent for TID Number 14 created by the City of Stevens Point Common Council until the termination of the district. Current law, limits this amount to 12%.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 136.

AB 985 modernizes the process of witnessing and notarizing estate planning documents by allowing for remote witnessing and notarization.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 130.

AB 1013 requires the Department of Health Services to contract with one or more nonprofit organizations to administer a healthy food incentive program statewide.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 201.

AB 1014 requires the Department of Health Services, in coordination with relevant state agencies, to award  two-year grants to organizations, cities, villages, towns, counties, school districts, or Indian tribes for childhood obesity prevention and management programs.

AB 1015 appropriates $5,000,000 in fiscal year 2024-25 for the Department of Health Services to administer and award Assembly Bill 1014 childhood obesity prevention and management grants.

AB 1016 requires schools to offer at least a minimum of 180 minutes, or 3 hours, of physical activity during the school weeks to students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth grade.

AB 1017 creates two new appropriation lines relating to early literacy.

This legislation has been signed into law with a partial veto by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 100.

AB 1024 emphasizes early intervention and support for children who may be struggling due to underlying disabilities.

AB 1025 creates a single definition of truancy, and it changes the definition of truancy to mean absences that are one-third of a school day or more.

AB 1026 proposes a reasonable and necessary measure to address the issue of chronic absenteeism among students.

AB 1028 provides a grant under certain parameters including 1) school district must be in the top 10% of highest truancy rate 2) the school district must have a plan to combat truancy in their district and 3) the school must have set hours Monday-Friday.

AB 1027 is the funding for AB 1028.

AB 1029 proposes that the Department of Public Instruction include in the annual school district and school accountability report, commonly known as school and school district report cards, the percentage of pupils who are habitually truant.

AB 1034 has two elements related to transparency for interscholastic athletic associations.

AB 1042 will combine the Milwaukee, Racine, and statewide choice programs into one Private School Choice Program (PSCP).

In-District Events

Saturday, May 18th, the Maribel Sportsman’s Club (8824 WI-147, Maribel) will be hosting a Cancer Benefit (Trap Shoot) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Saturday, May 18th, will be a Native American Dance Performance in Kaukauna (1313 Augustine St.) starting at 12:30 p.m.

Monday, May 27th, will be a Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. in Wrightstown (924 Main St.).

Monday, May 27th, will be a Memorial Day parade at 12 p.m. in Mishicot (Main St.), followed by a program at the Mishicot Cemetery.
