Welcome back! Can you believe it’s June tomorrow? Summer is right around the corner!
Greenleaf Incorporation Referendum – June 20thÂ
Last year, a state board approved the incorporation of part of the town of Wrightstown into the village of Greenleaf in Brown County. This proposal incorporates about 320 acres of the town into the village. The remaining 32.3 square miles remain as the town of Wrightstown.
Now, voters in Greenleaf will vote yes or no on an incorporation referendum on Tuesday, June 20th.
Before it goes to a vote, there will be two meetings for residents to learn about the proposal:
1) A special meeting Wednesday, June 7th, at 6 p.m. at the Wrightstown Town Hall (1527 Day St.).
2) An open forum Wednesday, June 14th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wrightstown Town Hall.
Regulatory Licensing Reform Committee
Last Wednesday, my committee held a public hearing on three bills. All three stemmed from the Study Committee on Occupational Licenses. This study committee focused on solutions that would decrease the significant backlog the Department of Safety and Professional Services was seeing. The overall goal was, and still is, to get people licensed and able to work as soon as possible.
AB 203Â revises the language regarding the effect of the renewal date to specify that the renewal date is the date on which a credential expires and before which a credential holder must submit a complete renewal application in order to maintain without interruption the rights, privileges, and authority conferred by the credential.
AB 204Â revises each two-year renewal period in the health and business professions to four-year renewal periods.
AB 205Â will allow out-of-state licensed business professionals to transition to the Wisconsin workforce quickly and efficiently without being limited while their license gets approved by the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS).
Committee on Jobs, Economy, and Small Business Development Public Hearing
Last week I testified in the Jobs, Economy, and Small Business Development Committee on AB 172, a bill I wrote that creates a nonrefundable tax credit program for sole proprietorships when they hire their first full-time employee.
Committee on Education Public Hearing
Last week I also testified in the Education Committee on AB 99, a bill I wrote that broadens the definition of what “regularly employed in education” means to include Department of Public Instruction (DPI) employees.
The state of Wisconsin allocates lifetime teaching, administrator, and pupil services licenses. Currently, if an individual leaves the education system, the lifetime license expires after five consecutive years of inactivity. This remains true if the teacher leaves the education system to work for the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), regardless of the fact that DPI is a state agency that focuses on and advances public education. With this bill, teachers will no longer have to worry if their license will expire if they choose to cross over to work for DPI or if they choose to return to teaching after being employed by DPI.
