Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety Public Hearing (6/3)
Yesterday, June 3rd, the Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety held a public hearing on 6 bills.
AB 239 prohibits anyone from frightening, intimidating, threatening, abusing, or harassing a search and rescue K9.
This criminal justice bill expands current law to include search and rescue dogs in addition to animals that are used by a law enforcement agency or fire department to perform agency or department functions or duties.
AB 273 seeks to add a Physician Assistant to the Controlled Substances Board.
AB 285 requires the Department of Transportation (DOT) to establish and administer a public protective services hearing protection program.
AB 298 requires the Office of School Safety (OSS) to award grants to technical college district boards so they may submit interactive critical mapping data for each of their technical college buildings to criminal justice/law enforcement agencies and OSS.
AB 278 requires the Department of Justice (DOJ) to award grants to law enforcement agencies to acquire data-sharing platforms.
Under current law, the DOJ awards grants to cities and law enforcement agencies for various purposes, including to pay for uniformed beat patrol officers and to enable agencies to purchase body cameras. The bill sets forth criteria that data-sharing platforms must meet to be covered by the grant.
AB 259 prohibits individuals from entering or remaining at a campground without the consent of the campground operator.
Office Staff Update
If you have ever contacted my office, you have likely spoken with my legislative aide, Connie.
Three and a half years ago, I took a chance, hiring Connie from the sunny state of Florida. She hadn’t done any political work before, but I sensed something in her attitude and character during her interview, and I thought there just might be a great legislative aide waiting to be found.
And I was right.
I am sure, like me, you have appreciated her pleasant and helpful demeanor whenever you have reached out. In the years she has worked for me, I have seen her grow into a thoroughly competent, reliable, and fantastic young lady.
Sadly for us, Connie is moving on to another opportunity at the end of this week.
Please join me in wishing her the best. She will be sorely missed.
Manitowoc County Tavern League Banquet (6/2)
This past Monday (6/2), I gave a legislative update at the Manitowoc County Tavern League Banquet. I always like to remember that it was their lawsuit that forced Evers to reopen WI in 2020.
Thank you for all you do for our communities.
Brown County Breakfast on the Farm (6/1)
