Ballot Questions Results

Last week, Wisconsinites overwhelmingly supported three statewide ballot proposals. The results show that Wisconsinites care deeply about community safety. The first two questions were proposed amendments to the Wisconsin Constitution relating to expanding the criteria a judge may consider when setting cash bail, and other conditions for a defendant’s release before trial.

The third proposal approved by voters in last Tuesday’s election was a nonbinding question on whether able-bodied childless adults in Wisconsin should be required to search for work in order to receive taxpayer-funded welfare benefits. To see the breakdown of each question’s results, see the graphics below.

Should judges be authorized to weigh "serious harm" instead of "serious bodily harm"?

Protecting Our Kids

This week I announced my plan to introduce legislation to protect children from the harmful effects of social media. To learn more about what the bill would do, see the excerpt below.

I look forward to working on this bill this session, and I’m hopeful my colleagues will see the value in creating clear rules for a social media company to follow when it comes to the accounts of children. Parents, educators, and mental health advocates have been sounding the alarm on the impacts of social media on our kids for years. This is an opportunity for us to take substantive action before this growing problem gets even worse.
