4th Assembly District Update: February 16, 2024

Tax-Free Retirement Passes Assembly

Wisconsin State Rep. David Steffen's proposal to create a tax-free retirement in Wisconsin passed the State Assembly. This week, my proposal to create a tax-free retirement in Wisconsin passed the State Assembly. This change would be a big win for Wisconsinites young and old, and would result in real relief — $1,582 each year for qualified filers. We’ve all felt the effects of rising inflation in recent years, but fixed-income retirees have been hit particularly hard. Having a tax-free retirement would mean more people stay in Wisconsin when they retire, benefiting our economy and allowing them the opportunity to remain near family and friends. This legislation would take Wisconsin one step closer to being the best state in which to live, work, and retire.

Public Hearing in Energy & Utilities Committee

The Assembly Committee on Energy & Utilities met for another public hearing this week. We heard from both sides on the issue of community solar, which is a hot topic across the state. I’m grateful for the opportunity to chair a committee that touches so many important issues for Wisconsinites.
