4th Assembly District Update: February 9, 2024

The Evolution of Energy in Wisconsin

Wisconsin State Rep. David Steffen hosted a joint informational public hearing focused on the "Evolution of Energy" in Wisconsin.

On Wednesday this week, I hosted a joint informational public hearing focused on the “Evolution of Energy” in Wisconsin. As Chair of the Assembly Committee on Energy and Utilities, it was an honor and privilege to invite experts to the Capitol to testify on cutting-edge energy technology. Wisconsin boasts an “all of the above” approach to our energy portfolio – meaning we utilize a broad range of renewable and nonrenewable sources to meet our energy needs. This hearing showcased a number of emerging technologies and energy sources that will be vital to meet Wisconsin’s energy needs in the future.

Speakers from the following companies and organizations traveled to the Capitol to speak to committee members on this important topic:

  • Virent, Inc.: A Wisconsin-based company leading the way in carbon-neutral products.
  • Realta Fusion, Inc.: A Wisconsin-based company leading the way in fusion energy technology.
  • X-energy: A national leader in advanced nuclear reactors and fuel design.
  • Electric Power Research Institute: A leader in clean energy research and development, including rapidly advancing hydrogen technology.

This hearing was a fantastic opportunity for members of the committee and members of the public to learn from experts in these diverse fields. Wisconsin’s energy future is in good hands!

Earned Income Tax Credit: Are You Eligible?

You may qualify for the earned income tax credit.

This session I’ve been working closely with the Department of Revenue to increase awareness about the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) — a credit available to working families with children. Now that tax season is around the corner, I wanted to share with you some important information and resources available regarding the EITC. Be sure to check out this information and claim the credit if you qualify.
