Thankful for the Opportunity to Serve
To begin the week, I had the honor of being sworn in for my sixth term as State Representative for Wisconsin’s 4th Assembly District. It remains a humbling experience to hold this distinguished position, and I can’t thank my constituents enough. Although the district looks different this session, I remain indebted to the people of northeast Wisconsin for blessing me with the continued opportunity to be their voice in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
While there is certainly no doubt that the state government and its many members will experience disagreements, I remain hopeful in advancing legislative efforts that will be ultimately beneficial to Wisconsin and its people. I am eager to begin working towards legislative achievements this session.
The Republican majority will pursue an ambitious agenda aimed at making Wisconsin prosperous, ensuring public safety, reducing taxes, and limiting the size of government. That said, there is always room for bipartisanship, and I am encouraged to reach across the aisle to address our pressing issues.
Preserving Voter ID Requirements
I joined fellow Assembly Republicans at a press conference on Wednesday unveiling plans to pass a constitutional amendment requiring voter ID in Wisconsin elections. This is the second consideration of such a constitutional amendment and is the next step in placing the measure on voter ballots in the spring.
It’s an honor to join my Republican colleagues in bringing forth this critical election integrity measure. While Wisconsin has successfully implemented voter ID requirements for over a decade, enshrining voter ID into our state constitution will ensure that the security and integrity of our elections are constitutionally protected. A functioning democracy requires full faith in our electoral process and voter ID is a proven method for securing that process.
Under the proposed constitutional amendment, valid photographic identification would be required by the state constitution when voting in Wisconsin. The amendment makes no changes to voter ID exceptions already in statute and maintains the ability of voters who do not have valid identification on Election Day to cast a provisional ballot.
Honoring Law Enforcement
This week, we recognized National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. It is important to acknowledge the exceptional service and sacrifices law enforcement personnel make for their fellow Americans.
Every day, members of law enforcement risk their lives in service to those they have pledged to protect and defend. Their work is essential to preserving peace in our communities and ensuring the safety of precious lives and personal property.
While this Thursday gave us the opportunity to express our support, I encourage everyone to show continued appreciation for your local law enforcement. As the legislative session begins, I am committed to supporting law enforcement and promoting best practices that enhance both the safety of our communities and the well-being of the professionals who serve us.
