Tax-Free Retirement for Wisconsin

Tax free retirement for Wisconsin. When I hear from Wisconsin retirees who have chosen to leave the state, one of the main reasons they give for relocating is that Wisconsin’s burdensome tax on retirement income has made it too difficult to stay. Retirees face the impossible decision of leaving the state they spent a lifetime living, working, and building relationships in, or staying and losing out on more of their hard earned retirement savings. This bill would eliminate or at the very least substantially reduce that burden so that retirees who invested so much in our state throughout their life are able to stay here for their post-work years as well.

This proposal, which I am introducing with my colleague Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara, would exempt the first $100,000 of retirement income for individuals age 67 or older and the first $150,000 for married-joint filers. Income that is already tax-exempt, like Social Security and military earnings, would not count towards a retiree’s exempt income under the bill.

Alleviating the tax burden on our state’s retired population is a major step towards ensuring Wisconsinites are supported in all walks of life. I will continue to fight to make Wisconsin the best state to live, work, and retire in!

Operation We Love Our Troops

We love our troops! My colleagues and I recently packed over 100 care packages for Wisconsinites serving in the military. The two I packed will go to an Army Soldier from the 4th Assembly District. We know that care packages cannot compensate our servicemen and women for the sacrifices they have made, but we hope they’ll bring joy and a taste of home to those serving.

To those who are currently serving or who have served: thank you. We are indebted to you and are so grateful for your service.
