4th Assembly District Update: June 20, 2025

Expanding Scope of Practice

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Modernization Act was passed in the Assembly this week, empowering APRNs to utilize their expertise and training to open clinics, bringing much-needed care to areas where healthcare providers are scarce.

These professionals had their restrictions lifted during the pandemic and brought much-needed relief to patients and systems throughout the state. The regulations returned after the emergency order ended, but it was demonstrated during this time of need that permitting APRNs to harness their full skills and qualifications is a win for the well-being of our communities.

After valiant efforts in prior legislative sessions were terminated with a veto, this effort should conclude with the passage of this bill and bring Wisconsin a brighter and healthier future.

Innovation and Independence

The Assembly also passed AB 269, permitting the establishment of portable benefit accounts for individuals choosing to work in the gig economy.

I heard from many constituents on this issue who utilize app-based platforms, such as DoorDash, for supplemental income. They highlighted the flawed current law that prevented them from receiving traditional benefits and supported this change to cut the burdensome red tape and give them the options they deserve.

The gig economy sector is growing in popularity both through consumerism and in employment, and allowing flexibility and independence for these workers is a forward-thinking step in an evolving economy.

Nuclear Summit Bill Passes Senate

The State Senate this week passed the second of the two nuclear energy bills I’ve worked on this session. The proposal is for the state to host the “Wisconsin Nuclear Power Summit.” The Summit will bring together industry leaders, subject-matter experts, investors, and public policy officials to showcase Wisconsin’s leadership in the nuclear industry and to identify the next steps for nuclear development in Wisconsin.

Similar to the other nuclear energy proposal, AB 108, this legislation was met with bipartisan support, recognizing Wisconsin’s position to lead in this exciting sector and acknowledging our meaningful first steps in moving the needle on this issue. The bill, accessible here: https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2025/proposals/sb124, now moves on to the Assembly, where I hope to lead it to continued progression.
