Finalization on Coal Piles
For half a century, Brown County and the city of Green Bay have worked to reclaim and repurpose the ¼ mile of downtown riverfront property that is currently dedicated to coal storage. With this week’s announcement, we now begin a new era of opportunity and excitement for downtown Green Bay.
Enhancing the economic and aesthetic value of our Fox River and its frontage will pay enormous dividends to the residents in the decades and centuries to follow. Having witnessed this issue play out for almost a decade, it is terrific to see a finalized coal pile solution, and I’m thankful for everyone who played a part.
Nuclear Bills Approved in Assembly Committee
Assembly Bills 108 and 132 were passed out of the Assembly Committee on Jobs and Economy this week.
AB 108, relating to a nuclear siting study, and AB 132, which hosts a nuclear power summit, both received bipartisan support at this stage in the process and now proceed to an eventual vote on the Assembly Floor.
It continues to be encouraging to see these initiatives progress through the legislature, and I am excited to jump the final hurdles in bringing these changes into law and beginning an age of next generation energy in Wisconsin.
June Is National Dairy Month
June is National Dairy Month! There is no better place to recognize this occasion than America’s Dairyland. The tradition began to promote dairy products and our farmers during peak milking season, and I’m glad we are keeping the custom alive.
Wisconsin’s economy, history, and culture have a deep appreciation for dairy. In June, we take special time to express our appreciation for dairy farmers, haulers, processors, distributors, consumers, and everyone who contributes to the strength of the dairy industry.
Let us take this opportunity to recognize the stewardship and dedication of Wisconsin’s dairy industry, which contributes over $53 billion annually to our state’s economy, including over $140 million in sales from Oconto County. Please join me in showing gratitude for our hardworking dairy farmers and producers!
Free Fun Weekend
This weekend, June 7-8, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring their Free Fun Weekend!
Wisconsin boasts 50 state parks, 15 state forests, and 44 state trails. We are also home to 84,000 miles of rivers and streams, and approximately 15,000 lakes. Each year, during the first weekend in June, you can enjoy all of these natural wonders with no admission fees for state parks, fishing licenses, or trail passes.
I encourage you all to take this opportunity and enjoy our beautiful state this weekend!
