Brown County Communities to Receive Record Funding Increases
This week, the Assembly passed legislation to increase funding for local governments to historic levels. This investment will primarily focus on public safety, public works, and innovation. Under this new plan, every municipality in Wisconsin will see an increase in state aid of at least 15%. That means local governments will be better equipped to serve their communities through law enforcement, fire, EMS, and standard public works services such as road repairs.
Above are the state aid increases communities in the 4th Assembly District will receive If this bill is enacted.
The aid increases under this proposal for each community are as follows: Allouez: 91.7%, Ashwaubenon: 194.2%, Howard: 93.1%, Green Bay: 15%, Brown County: 77.3%.
I was proud to vote for this legislation on the floor of the Assembly. No piece of legislation is perfect, but this plan is the result of months of extensive negotiations within the legislative and executive branches, and will truly benefit the state of Wisconsin’s local government bodies if enacted. It not only provides enough resources to municipalities to allow them to continue providing key services to our communities, but it also incentivizes local governments to find ways to make their service-providing more efficient going forward.
First Energy & Utilities Committee Hearing
As chair of the Assembly Committee on Energy and Utilities, I was excited to hold our first public hearing this week! This committee covers a diverse array of topics, and we heard this week from legislators and stakeholders on issues ranging from phase-outs of decommissioned power plants to ensuring consumers have the freedom to utilize the energy sources in their homes that best fit their needs.
Public hearings are a great way to learn more about a bill and create an open dialogue between those in support and opposition, and they provide a great learning opportunity for those who may be on the fence. Looking forward to having more of these meetings as the legislative session continues!
