Budget Survey and Listening Sessions
This week, many residents of the 4th Assembly District will receive my budget survey in the mail. If you haven’t already, please take the time to provide genuine and thoughtful responses, as your feedback will help me better understand my constituents’ perspectives and will guide my positions and advocacy in crafting the state budget.
The survey can also be taken here: https://legis.wisconsin.
Also listed on the mail piece are the dates, times, and locations of my upcoming budget listening sessions:
- Thursday, May 22nd from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
- Oconto City Hall, (1210 Main St. Oconto) Multi-Purpose Room
- Thursday, May 22nd from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
- Howard Village Hall, (2465 Glendale Ave, Howard) Duck Creek Conference Room
I encourage you all to take the time to stop by and voice your concerns and priorities heading into the biennial budget cycle.
Refocusing on Reemployment
The Assembly passed AB 164 passed last week with my support, proposing important changes to Wisconsin’s unemployment insurance system to focus on giving people a hand up.
The bill appropriately renames the program “Reemployment Assistance” highlighting the goal of the policy changes. It focuses unemployment aid towards helping people find work while providing a connective space for businesses to find employees. It does so with the following adjustments:
- Ensuring claimants are making direct contact with employers
- Having claimant’s resumes posted on the Job Center of WI
- Requiring the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) to refer claimants to employers based on their skills and location
- Offering job counseling for claimants who are late into their beneficiary period
- Making US Division of Labor services available to all claimants
These are specific and verifiable methods to work with the business community and offer a long-term solution to those in need. These low-pressure requirements will aid those in need towards reemployment while maintaining the availability of appropriate benefits.
