This week, I introduced legislation that would deliver major tax relief for Wisconsin’s middle-class earners and retirees. Under this plan, the average filer would see a savings of $772, or about a 16% decrease in their tax burden. The proposal builds upon the Tax-Free Retirement legislation I introduced earlier this session and includes a major reduction in taxes for Wisconsin’s middle class.
Wisconsin’s current tax burden, coupled with high inflationary pressures, has made it difficult for many residents of this state to afford daily life. This proposal would provide real, meaningful relief for Wisconsinites in all walks of life. In addition to exempting up to $150,000 in retirement account income for joint filers, this bill would reduce the middle income tax rate from 5.3% to 4.4%. In total, this package would cut taxes for Wisconsinites by over $2.9 billion by returning capitalizing on our post-budget surplus.
It’s an honor to lead on this important piece of legislation and I look forward to getting it across the finish line!
