55th Assembly District E-Update: March 29, 2023

Thank you for taking the time to read my newest E-Update!

For those of you that are new, my name is Nate Gustafson and I am the current State Representative for the 55th Assembly District!

The 55th Assembly District includes Neenah, Fox Crossing, Grand Chute, Appleton, Larsen, Vinland, Wolf River, Winchester, and Clayton.

Honoring David and Jan Metzig

“In 1980, David and Jan moved to Zittau and became the third generation of Metzigs to own and operate the Union Star Cheese Factory. They raised their five sons in a home above the factory, which became a cherished gathering spot for extended family and friends. The Union Star employees, customers and farmers were also considered family.”

With such tragedies our community always comes together. I ask that you pray for the Metzig family as they navigate this difficult time.

Upcoming Election

Don’t forget there’s an election on April 4th. Wisconsinites will elect a judge to the State Supreme Court, vote in local races, and vote on three statewide referenda. The three referenda include a constitutional amendment giving judges the ability to look at a defendant’s past convictions for violent crimes when setting cash bail, a constitutional amendment that will allow judges to consider “serious harm” when setting cash bail, and an advisory question regarding able-bodied, childless adults reguired to look for work in order to receive taxpayer-funded welfare benefits.

Bail Amendment

I was proud to vote for AB 54, that defines “violent crime” and “serious harm” for the bail constitutional amendments on the ballot on April 4th. I voted ‘yes’ because we need to give judges greater discretion to hold high-risk defendants accountable and keep dangerous criminals out of the community while on trial for violent criminal acts.

Upcoming Budget Listening Sessions!

Senator Cabral-Guevara and I are holding budget listening sessions all over the district. Thank you to everyone who came out to our first two sessions in Grand Chute and Neenah. I invite you to attend one of the following listening sessions on April 15th, as I greatly value hearing directly from my constituents on budgetary issues.

Fox Crossing Municipal Complex – April 15 9:30am-10:30am

Neenah High School – April 15 11:00am-12:00pm
