Higher Education Summit
This week I attended a summit on the state-federal relationship in higher education in Washington, DC. The summit was hosted by the National Association of State Legislatures’ Task Force on Higher Education. It brought together state legislative leaders, higher education executives, and federal policymakers for a series of day-long roundtable discussions.
As part of my visit, I was one of a very small number of state legislators that had a private meeting with U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and Undersecretary James Kvaal.
Happy Birthday, National Guard!
This week the National Guard celebrated its 387th birthday! On December 13, 1636, the Massachusetts General Court established an official militia for the first time in the American Colonies.
A component of the United States Army, the National Guard is primarily composed of citizen-soldiers who hold down full-time, civilian jobs, attend school, or as is often the case, both. At the same time, they are available to provide support and protection for the states’ civilians or be called for military operations at a national level.
Each U.S. state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the territories of Guam and U.S. Virgin Islands maintain both an Army National Guard and an Air National Guard.
Visit the Wisconsin Army National Guard and the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
