Assembly Passes $2.1 Billion Tax Cut
On Tuesday, Assembly Republicans and I voted to return $2.1 billion to middle class Wisconsinites, families and senior citizens. Here’s what the package of four bills would do:
Assembly Bill 1020 – Would change the State’s second tax bracket, currently taxed at 4.4%, to income up to $150,000 from the current $38,190. This would reduce taxes by an average of $454 per filer.
Assembly Bill 1021 – Would increase the tax exemption for retirement income up to $150,000, for an average cut of $1,582 per filer.
Assembly Bill 1022 – Would raise the married couple credit from $480 to $870. This would cut taxes for the average filer by $338.
Assembly Bill 1023 – Would expand the child and dependent care credit to 100% of the federal credit and create an additional state benefit by making expenses up to $10,000 for one child and $20,000 for two or more children eligible for the credit.
These bills will reduce income taxes by an average of 15%. It’s time to return more money back to you, the taxpayers.
Legislative Update
This week, a proposed constitutional amendment I authored passed the Assembly Floor:
Assembly Joint Resolution 109 – This proposed constitutional amendment will return Merit, Fairness and Equality to the hiring process at all levels of Wisconsin government, including the University of Wisconsin System.
The amendment prohibits governmental entities in the state from discriminating against, or granting preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in public employment, public education, public contracting, or public administration.
“Governmental entities” is defined as the State, its political subdivisions including municipalities, the Universities of Wisconsin System, the Technical College System, any public college or university, and public school district, and any office, department, independent agency, board, commission, authority, institution, association, society, or other body in state or local government created or authorized to be created by the constitution or any law, including the legislature and the courts.

The best way to experience the beauty and grandeur of Wisconsin’s Capitol building (located at 2 East Main Street, Madison, WI 53702) is to see it for yourself. It is open to the public weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and weekends and holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Free tours are offered daily, year round except on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas. Tours start at the information desk Monday through Saturday at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 a.m. and 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 p.m.; and Sundays at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 p.m. A 4:00 p.m. tour is offered weekdays (Monday – Friday), excluding holidays, during Memorial Day through Labor Day. Plan on spending 45-55 minutes for a tour. The sixth floor museum and observation deck are open during the summer months.
