This week the State Assembly voted on a number of bills to address Wisconsin’s housing shortage and implement a shared revenue agreement that legislative Republicans reached with Governor Evers.
The housing package includes legislation to create next generation workforce housing, rehabilitate main street housing and convert unused commercial developments into residential housing. It will also increase the low-income housing tax credit from $42 million to $100 million.
The shared revenue agreement overhauls the State’s current shared revenue program that has been in place for years. It includes payment increases of at least 20% to Wisconsin municipalities other than Milwaukee. Many communities will see even more significant increases. The bill gives Milwaukee the ability to impose a city sales tax.
The workforce housing legislation now goes to the State Senate and the shared revenue legislation is headed to Governor Evers’ desk.
