Ballot Referendum Explanation Bill Receives a Hearing

On Tuesday  the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections which I serve on held a hearing on several important bills including  Assembly Bill 207. Assembly Bill 207 is a much needed reform to address confusion at the ballot box. The State of Wisconsin has had a number of referendums in recent years, and will continue to have them going forward. It is important that our voters have all the information possible to make informed decisions.

In recent years we’ve seen referendums that poll very well, and yet the election results go the other way. In talking with my constituents they often find the legal jargon on the ballot confusing. This bill addresses this issue, provides clarity for the public, and is a common-sense reform.

Consul General Of Ireland Visits Wisconsin

The Consul General of Ireland, Brian Cahalane, visited the state Capitol and was introduced by Wisconsin State Rep. Dave Murphy.

Last Friday the Consul General of Ireland Brian Cahalane visited the state Capitol. As the Chairman of the Wisconsin-Ireland Trade Commission it was my honor to introduce him for his speech on US-Ireland relations. When I authored the bill to create the commission during the last session of the legislature, I hoped the commission could foster stronger ties between Wisconsin and Ireland. A great event like this is a step in the right direction.
