This week the Assembly Committee on Colleges and Universities wrapped up its series of meetings on the topic of free speech and intellectual diversity on college campuses. The committee heard from UW System President Jay Rothman, attorney and Medical College of Wisconsin student Daniel Hughes, Michael Lucci of the Cicero Institute, John Sailer of the National Association of Scholars, and former UW System Regent and current President of Free Speech for Campus, Inc. Tim Higgins.
Thank you to all of the speakers who participated in these hearings for providing information that will be invaluable going forward as we work to craft good and fair policy. Thank you, too, to all of the Colleges and Universities Committee members for putting in the time and travel to hold meetings around the state.
I will now start working with my colleagues on action items based on what we learned in these committee meetings.
