I wanted to share a few of the 2023-2025 Healthcare Budget Highlights that we worked on that survived the Governor’s veto.
During the first half of this year, I met with several different groups and organizations that were all very concerned with healthcare funding, quality care, and shortages of staff in the healthcare industry. Medicaid funding, long-term care (worker pay – nursing home incentives – ventilator-dependent patients)
Wisconsin will benefit from the health care priorities passed in this budget cycle.
As for remaining ‘healthier,’ we are entering the latter half of our Summer Season. Please remember to consider the following as you are out and about and enjoying all the activities Wisconsin has to offer.
- Drive Defensively: Lookout for unpredictable bicyclists and out-of-state drivers.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink water, protect your skin, keep tabs on your body temperature to avoid heat exhaustion or stroke.
- Boat Defensively: Getting out of the heat and enjoying the water with family friends is a a lot of fun. Do not let alcohol or unworn life jackets during lake and river boating ruin your memories.
- Check Your Blind Spot: Motorcycles and fast moving cars can seem like they appear ‘out of nowhere.’ The same goes for jet skis and wave runners while boating.
- Breathe Easier: Be mindful of your local air quality and pay attention to air quality alerts – especially if you work outdoors. Smoke from the Canadian wildfires may trigger respiratory irritation or breathing difficulties during exercise or outdoor activities. Consider staying indoors with air conditioning and reduce strenuous activities.
Mock Legislature
Last week, I participated in a mock legislature for a teen leadership camp led by LEAD WI. In this mock legislature, I was a chairwoman of an Assembly Committee, while students from around the state acted as representatives. This was a great opportunity for these students to learn more about how a bill becomes a law. I genuinely enjoyed participating helping students in this educational event.
