Legislature Passes State Budget
We voted for an historic increase in K-12 funding. We’re going to make sure every student has access to a high quality education that fits their needs. As part of the one billion dollars spent on K-12 schools, the budget funds per-pupil increases that can be used flexibly by each school district depending on what’s required. There’s also $30 million for mental health services and $50 million to improve students’ reading ability.
We also included funding to expand choice and charter school options. That way families have access to educational opportunities that best fit their children.
We also cut taxes by $4.4 billion. We provided property tax relief, reduced the income tax and lowered business taxes. I think taxpayers are better at spending their money than the government, so we should give them more of their own money back.
Finally, we’re investing over $1.5 billion in roads, bridges and transportation infrastructure. Republicans provided more money than the Governor did to repair local roads and fix state highways.
