Budget Saturday is an annual special meeting of the city’s Finance Committee; however, it is customarily attended by all members of the common council, not just Finance Committee members. The public is invited to attend, although there is no opportunity for public comment at this meeting.
We will convene at City Hall (6th floor, 100 North Appleton Street) at 8:00 a.m. to discuss the mayor’s 2025 proposed executive budget. You can peruse the mayor’s 2025 proposed budget here: https://www.appleton.org/home/showpublisheddocument/26839
Aldermen are expected to use Budget Saturday to prepare and propose any budget amendments for the coming year. Each budget section (loosely following the departmental structure of the city government) will be taken up separately, one by one. There will be a Q&A time for each section and any budget amendments that the aldermen have ready to be proposed at that time will be presented. Later in the process, there will be a bit more time for budget amendments. But this is an alderman’s “first shot” at amending the mayor’s proposed budget. Since this is technically a committee meeting, there will be another separate meeting of the full council solely for the purpose of final adoption of the final version of the 2025 budget (6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 11/13/2024, at City Hall).
The Budget Saturday meeting has no predicted end time as it may take all day for the entire budget to be combed through and discussed for possible tax savings, priority realignment, etc.
Members of the public are welcome to drop in to hear discussions during this meeting any time during the day. We will be in council chambers for as long as it takes! Besides sitting in on this date, the public is also welcome to make comment and otherwise participate in the city’s 2025 budget process through these opportunities:
