In November 2024 U.S. Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) sent recommendations for conservative school board training alternatives. It has come to our attention that the Consortium of State School Boards Association (COSSBA) is no longer a good reference as a conservative school board training alternative:
- COSSBA is no better than the National School Boards Association (NSBA). Once membership in NSBA became unpalatable because of NSBA’s letter to the DOJ calling parents terrorists, several groups peeled off and renamed themselves, but kept the same platform. Here is a link to the NSBA letter to the DOJ calling parents domestic terrorists: https://
defendinged.org/wp-content/ uploads/2021/11/Letter.pdf - The National School Boards Leadership Council (NSBLC), a resource we DO recommend, did research that found COSSBA and NSBA have the same platforms at the bottom of page 2 and top of page 3.
- That research was used by Kimberly Fletcher later in her Washington Times op-ed.
“The NSBLC has documented the clear politicization of school boards. The Consortium of State School Boards Associations, or COSSBA, which began after the National School Boards Association, or NSBA, became too politically entrenched, is a perfect example. Despite the name change, the goals of the COSSBA have come to align almost perfectly with those of the NSBA.” – Kimberly Fletcher, Washington times, June 17, 2024
USPIE recommends the following alternative trainings and associations:
1. Family Policy Alliance – School Board Academy (this training is Biblically-based)
2. National School Boards Leadership Council
3. School Board Training – The Heritage Foundation
USPIE has guides and resources on our website to help parents navigate and learn how their local school boards function! USPIE also provides templates for school board policy prohibiting Critical Race Theory. View Resources Here.
