Encouraging Veteran Employment
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development is now accepting applications as part of its Vets Ready Employer Initiative. Established in 2019, the initiative seeks to support veterans as they transition from military service into civilian careers. The program recognizes businesses that make a strong commitment to hiring, supporting, and retaining veterans in the workforce, offering a fantastic opportunity for any business owner in Wisconsin interested in recruiting military veterans to join their crew. Business owners seeking eligibility for recognition in this program must participate in connecting the veteran community, prioritize hiring veterans, and offer veteran support services to their employees.
The program has experienced steady growth since its inception, as an increasing number of employers recognize the tremendous value veterans bring to the workplace. Wisconsin companies honored through the program have implemented mentorship opportunities, veteran resource groups, specialized onboarding programs, and partnerships with local veteran organizations. The initiative also highlights businesses that support military families and create workplace cultures that recognize the leadership, discipline, and technical skills veterans develop through service.
As businesses strive to attract and retain quality employees, this initiative presents a perfect opportunity for local employers to support veterans in their communities while simultaneously enhancing their workforce. The application period closes on July 31st, with selected employers announced on Veterans Day in November. I encourage anyone interested to consider applying; you can find out more information and submit your application here: https://dwd.wisconsin.
Progress on Coal Piles
Late last week, Brown County announced the beginning of a 60-year lease agreement with C. Reiss Terminals, LLC. The agreement reached between Brown County and C. Reiss is a testament to this critical development opportunity nearing conclusion. This 15-year effort to finally relocate the coal storage to a more suitable location will unlock nearly a quarter mile of riverfront for redevelopment and recreation. I am grateful for the outstanding local leadership that has kept this important project moving forward.

Honoring National Police Week
This week is National Police Week, a time for us all to honor the courageous men and women of law enforcement and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Thank you to all of our outstanding officers in the 4th Assembly District for everything you do in keeping our communities safe; your hard work does not go unnoticed.
