Congressman Tony Wied’s Update: October 23, 2026

I have had a busy few weeks traveling all over Northeast Wisconsin and have enjoyed getting to meet with constituents, businesses, and community leaders all across our district.

From meeting with manufacturers in Green Bay to speaking with students in Algoma, it has been a privilege to connect with so many members of our community. One of the highlights of this week was visiting U.S. Coast Guard Station Sturgeon Bay.

Station Sturgeon Bay has about 30 active-duty members and reservists who provide search-and-rescue assistance, enforce boating safety laws, conduct ice rescue operations, and protect infrastructure critical to our nation’s maritime environment. We are very fortunate to have them serving right here in our district.

My team and I had the opportunity to tour the station, visit its lighthouse, and even go out on one of the station’s response boats for a firsthand look at the work these brave service members do every day.

Too often, the work of the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard goes unnoticed. However, they do incredible, life-saving work every day to keep our coastlines and waterways safe. The importance of that work cannot be overstated.

That is why I am committed to ensuring that, like every branch of our military, the Coast Guard has the tools and resources it needs to carry out its mission and keep our country safe.

Last year, as a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I was proud to vote for the Coast Guard Reauthorization Act, which was signed into law as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The legislation helps bring the Coast Guard into greater parity with the other military services, including by establishing a Secretary of the Coast Guard. It also included the Great Lakes Icebreaker Act, of which I was proud to be an original cosponsor. This provision directs the Coast Guard to strengthen its Great Lakes icebreaking fleet, helping protect maritime commerce, transportation, and safety throughout our region.

The men and women of our armed forces put their lives on the line to protect our communities and our country. I will continue fighting in Washington to ensure they have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively.

I am grateful to the men and women of Coast Guard Station Sturgeon Bay for welcoming my team and me. I look forward to continuing to be a strong partner to them in Washington.

Thanks again for starting your weekend with us! We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Wied Wire.

District Update

Congress in the Classroom
[see featured photo above] The Algoma Venture Academy was started in 2021 and is a division of the Algoma School District. The academy provides personalized learning for students entering grades 7-12. It was great to visit Mr. DeWitt’s 9th and 10th grade class to speak about my role in Congress, the legislative process, and to answer questions from students. Thank you to Mr. DeWitt and his class for having me and for the great conversation!

LAST CALL: 2026 Congressional App Challenge Deadline
As a reminder, all app submissions for the 2026 Congressional App Challenge are due in the Congressional App Challenge student submission portal by Monday, October 26, 2026. Each year, Members of Congress have the opportunity to invite students to participate in this great initiative, one that provides middle and high school students with the ability to pursue an interest in STEM and computer science. If you have any questions regarding this year’s challenge, please contact my District Office at 920-301-4500 or submit a message through my website here.

Constituent Services Spotlight
Providing the best constituent services to people of the 8th Congressional District is a top priority for me, from Veterans Affairs (VA) to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), my staff and I are here to help! To request assistance with a Federal Agency, you can contact me District Office at 920-301-4500 or submit a message through my website here.

A Mission of Service
I had the pleasure to welcome several of our incredible County Veteran Service Officers in the 8th Congressional District to my District Office to participate in a roundtable conversation. I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the services their offices provide and how we can continue to work together to ensure that our veterans and their families receive the care that they have earned. Thank you to all of the great CVSOs and TVSOs that we have here in the 8th Congressional District and to all of those who have heroically served our country.
