Appleton City Council Update: April 3 – April 7, 2023

It’s Full Council Week, Neighbors.  But forgive me for another abbreviated post as it’s also Spring Break week for the Appleton Area School District.  As such, I am spending some extra quality time with my Appleton North daughter this week!

The meetings for this week both take place on Wednesday, 04/05/2023.  At 6:30pm, just before the full council meeting, the Safety and Licensing Committee will have a short special meeting to review and potentially approve a number of license renewals and changes.

Then at 7pm, the full City of Appleton Common Council will meet.  In the mayor’s portion of the meeting, he will recognize this year’s Sidewalk Poetry winning poets, share seven (yes, SEVEN!) proclamations, conduct an “alder sendoff” for the one alderman who is serving for her last council meeting before someone else wins election in her district (Alderman Maiyoua Thao of District 7), and request council approval of some constituents to various city committees.

There will be a public hearing regarding the request by Meade Pond LLC condo association members to change the ownership of their lots and common areas (explained further here.)  Thereafter, the balance of the agenda deals with items which moved through committee meetings two weeks ago (mentioned here and some further discussed here).  Please review these items of interest — if you haven’t already read the last couple weeks’ blog posts! — and let me know if you have any questions and/or concerns on any of them.  Even when I’m spending family Spring Break time, I’m taking your feedback!

One other item of interest comes up this week.  And this one, I beg you, please do not miss!  Tuesday, 04/04/2023 is Election Day!  Your alderman is up for re-election and there are other local government positions on the ballot as well.  While all elections are of importance to the health of our representational democracy, this one in particular is vital for a state-level position, a broader local position, and some state referenda.  Please see the many, many previous weekly alderman posts on this blog to get a feel for the representation offered by your alderman and let me know if you have any questions for me before Election Day.  I do have a candidacy page on Facebook as well if you are interested in the information there.  Since this blog is reserved for city government meetings and happenings and not for campaigning, I will leave it at that.

It has been an honor to have served my neighbors for the past two years.  Thank you all for the great questions and follow-up you’ve provided during all that time!  I wish you all the best.. until next week when we “meet” here again!
