Congressman Tony Wied’s Update: June 20, 2025

Over the last week, there has been a lot of discussion about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran as well as what role the United States should play. I wanted to take the time today to discuss my thoughts on the matter with you.

We’ve seen what endless wars yield: immense costs, unclear objectives, and the sacrifice of American lives for outcomes we cannot control. I remain confident that President Trump can leverage diplomacy and strategic pressure to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon – without putting American troops in harm’s way and dragging the United States into another costly conflict.

Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism whose leaders have been responsible for the deaths of Americans and countless others. Their continued support for terrorist proxies and pursuit of regional dominance represents a grave threat to peace – not just for Israel, but for the broader Middle East. Israel, like all sovereign nations, has every right to defend itself from Iran and other rogue actors who do not believe it has a right to exist.

It’s my hope that Iran will see the writing on the wall and come back to the negotiating table. We can support Israel and stop Iran from building nuclear weapons without starting a new, and potentially endless, war. We must learn from our previous mistakes in the Middle East by refusing to spend trillions of taxpayer dollars and endangering the lives of our men and women in uniform in a futile attempt to change the anti-American culture of our enemies.

Thank you for starting your weekend with us. I hope you enjoy this week’s edition of The Wied Wire.

Supporting our Veterans: Visit to Wisconsin Veterans Home at King
I recently had the opportunity to visit the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King provides professional long-term skilled care and short-term rehabilitative stays for veterans and their beneficiaries. State veterans homes play an important role in caring for our veterans and I enjoyed meeting with leaders in King to learn about the critical services they provide. During the visit, we also discussed my support of the Veterans First Act of 2025, which would reallocate 2 billion dollars from USAID to veterans care homes. This bill would include $7.1 million to support renovation projects at the veterans home in King.

Insights from Washington: Informed Women of Northeast WI Luncheon
I had the pleasure of speaking to the Informed Women of Northeast WI group at their luncheon event this week. (See the featured photo above.) I was proud to discuss with these informed women (and men!) my work in Congress and answered questions from constituents on the topics of agriculture, Medicaid, the Big Beautiful Bill, and more. Thank you to the Informed Women of Northeast WI for inviting me and for hosting such a great event!

Celebrating Dairy Month: Kewaunee County Breakfast on the Farm
This past weekend, my family and I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Kewaunee County Breakfast on the Farm held at EL-NA Farms LLC in Algoma. The Fenendael family have owned and operated the dairy for the past 6 generations. Given the family’s leadership and hard work, the operation has significantly grown and now consists of 2,500 cows and 7,500 acres. I want to thank the Fenendael family for hosting such a successful event that showcased the heart of our district’s dairy tradition.
