After the July 5 decision by the Wisconsin State Supreme Court to allow the use of ballot drop boxes, I contacted the Election Clerks in the six largest cities in Outagamie County (70% of the population) to get their position on if they would be deploying Drop Boxes for either the August or November elections.
For the August election no Drop Boxes will be deployed. For the November election the only two potential cities are Kaukauna and Appleton. Kaukauna will be discussing the issue at its Common Council meeting next Tuesday (July 16).
Appleton has not made a decision yet. The city’s Election Clerk (Kristi King) left the position as of last Friday and her replacement will not start until July 22. I will follow-up after July 22 to learn what direction Appleton will go.
See the table below for my summary of the answers I received.
I was on a conference call this evening with Mike Hoffman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. Party officials are in the process of contacting the larger municipalities in the state and mapping out the locations of where Ballot Drop Boxes (if they are deployed) will be.
I will monitor things and will submit another update when I have more information.
