At its Monday, September 9 meeting, Fox Valley Initiative will feature Larry Thomas Jr., a dynamic figure with deep roots in Chicago, Illinois … recently transplanted to Wisconsin.
The meeting will take place at FreedomProject Academy, 750 North Hickory Farm Lane, Appleton. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with the program beginning promptly at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public at no charge; donations are welcome to help offset expenses.
Larry Thomas, Jr.’s professional journey began at the Illinois Department of Labor, where he contributed to labor policies and initiatives. He then served as a community liaison and rally organizer for the AFL-CIO, channeling his passion for advocacy into grassroots mobilization and political activism. He became a campaign lead and labor consultant with Shomon Inc., orchestrating numerous events for the Democratic Party of Illinois.
In 2016, as he prepared to join Bernie Sanders’ campaign, Thomas chose instead to step back and critically evaluate the political landscape. This introspection led him to a pivotal realization about the direction of the Democratic Party. Disenchanted by what he perceived as a party that had shifted away from its original values and had become increasingly out of touch with the needs of African-American citizens, Thomas decided to part ways with the Democratic Party in 2017, coinciding with Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Thomas’s career significantly turned in 2021, when he moved to Wisconsin to train as a medical device technician during the COVID-19 pandemic. His time in the medical field offered him a unique perspective on the pandemic’s impact, including the role of misinformation and the contentious policies of state governments regarding lockdowns, business closures, and mandated vaccines.
Today, Larry Thomas Jr. hosts the candid and thought-provoking podcast “Random Things You Need to Know.” His show is renowned for its directness, meticulous attention to detail, and unflinching honesty. Thomas’s ability to present complex ideas with clarity and a touch of humor makes his podcast a valuable resource for those seeking to understand contemporary issues from a fresh perspective.
