Fox Valley Initiative invites you to participate in its Education in Wisconsin conversation with:
- Brittany Kinser, candidate for the Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction position;
- Laura Ackman, leader of Moms for Liberty;
- Duke Pesta, executive director of Freedom Project Academy; and
- Melissa Niffenegger, De Pere School Board member.
The meeting will take place on Monday, March 3 at Freedom Project Academy, 750 North Hickory Farm Lane, Appleton. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be called to order at 6:30 p.m. and will adjourn at approximately 8:00 p.m. The discussion is free and open to the public, although free-will offerings to help offset expenses will be requested and appreciated.
We’ll be talking about DEI, CRT, Common Core, testing standards, school choice, mental health issues, and YOUR Wisconsin education concerns and questions.
Candidate Kinser has worked as a special education teacher, has served as principal of a public charter school, and has served as CEO of City Forward Collective, a Milwaukee education nonprofit organization. Kinser has said, “We need to be focusing on teaching our kids how to read, write, and do math.”
Kinser’s opponent, incumbent Jill Underly, has served for four years as State Superintendent of Public Instruction. She does not support school choice. As Ron Zahn of Northeast Wisconsin Patriots recently pointed out, she “concealed that ugly truth [about falling student achievement] … by rigging the scores so that kids could get an improved label without actually improving.”
The success of our state and country depends on a properly prepared and educated population. In recent decades we have fallen short on both. Join Fox Valley Initiative to learn about these issues and be better prepared to share with others the importance of the April 1 election.
I missed this, will there be anymore opportunities to discuss curriculum concerns in the future?
Julie: I’m sure there will be!
