Tuesday’s Presidential De-Bait was an epic betrayal of the American people. It was produced by ABC “News,” functioning as a corrupt arm of the Democratic Party, and was a thinly veiled attempt to deceive voters into electing Kamala Harris as the 47th President of the United States. Harris has a public record in elected office spanning 20 years. As District Attorney of San Francisco, Attorney General of California, Senator from California, and now Vice President, she is an extreme liberal who has championed ideas that would fundamentally change our country and trample our personal freedoms. In August, the Hill reported Harris was the 2nd most liberal Democratic Senator to serve in the 21st century. Among the positions she has taken in recent years are banning fracking and offshore drilling, replacing the private insurance industry with Medicare for all, decriminalizing illegal entry into the country, defunding the police, government paid transgender surgery for illegal migrants and federal prisoners, and mandatory gun buy backs. In the months since she became the Democratic nominee for President, she has been running away from her record and working hard to convince American voters she is a centrist who no longer embraces her extreme liberal ideology. She has refused to sit for unscripted interviews, with one pathetic 20-minute exception, and has articulated no specific policy plans other than tax the wealthy more, destroy the free market with price controls on businesses and give more “free stuff” to some on the backs of hard-working taxpayers.
Prior to the debate, nearly a third of those surveyed said they needed to know more about Harris including understanding her responsibility as a member of the Biden/Harris administration for the state of the economy, illegal immigration, and the disastrous Afghanistan pull out that left 13 members of the US military dead; why she has flip flopped on significant positions she held in the past; how she differs from Biden’s policies; and specifically what she would do as President to make life better for all Americans. The debate ended after ninety minutes with the American people having learned nothing about Harris other than she is a skillful liar who is willing to say and do anything to win.
Kamala Harris’s calculated and well executed De-Bait plan, contemptibly corrupt debate moderators, and missed opportunities by Donald Trump converged to present this farce to the American people.
The Harris De-Bait Plan
Harris has a history of exposing her lack of substance when she speaks without a script. She was well prepped with a debate strategy designed to protect her from impromptu responses. Her plan was 3-pronged: Puppet practiced, scripted statements on subjects that would likely come up; repeat debunked lies about Trump at every opportunity; and goad and taunt Trump on issues totally unrelated to the debate topics to “get under his skin” and deflect the conversation from her many vulnerabilities.
Question after question Harris responded to the moderators with prepared remarks that were sometimes related to the subject but did not address the question. The first question asked was about the economy, the number one concern of voters: “Are Americans better off today than they were four years ago?” Harris bypassed discussing the economy her administration named “Bidonomics” and deflected to Trump’s “failures.” The moderators never pressed her to answer this or any other question.
The Harris campaign consistently, knowingly disseminates lies about Trump. During the debate, Harris resorted to some of her most frequently repeated lies. She said Trump referred to Ku Klux Klan marchers in Charlottesville as “very fine people” (He actually said people on both sides of the debate about tearing down Confederate monuments were very fine people); she said Trump predicted a “blood bath” if he doesn’t win the November election (He actually said the auto industry will be in for a blood bath if he doesn’t win due to green policies); she said Trump will sign a national abortion ban, which he has clearly stated he will not; and she persists in calling a document entitled “Project 2025”, produced by the Heritage Foundation, “Trump’s Plan” though she is fully aware this is not “Trump’s Plan”.
The “Horrendously Biased” Moderators
Mark Halperin is one of the few journalists who consistently keeps his own political preferences to himself and reports with rare objectivity. The morning after the debate he summed up the performance of moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis. Calling them “horrendously biased,” he said they failed in their duty to inform the entire country why Harris has changed her views on so many critical issues and specifics about how she would govern.
Throughout the debate, the moderators allowed Harris to evade every direct question. They avoided focusing on the issues identified as most important by the voters, opting instead to hammer Trump on the January 6 “insurrection”, 2020 election fraud, climate change, and abortion. They “fact checked” Trump at every turn and failed to “fact check” Harris at all.
The media has a well-established pattern of calling Trump a liar. They play gotcha with technicalities every time he opens his mouth to deflect from important points he is making.
In a prime example during the debate, after the moderators failed to get Harris to state what limits she would impose on abortion, Trump referred to a statement by a Democratic governor to expose the extremism of the liberal position.
Former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, a physician, once responded to an interview question about what would happen in a third trimester abortion if a live fetus had severe abnormalities or was deemed non-viable: “If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
Moderator Davis interjected herself by responding to Trump’s point with “There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born” and quickly moved on.
It’s time to exclude media personalities from any role in moderating debates among political candidates. They have disqualified themselves with their dishonesty and partisanship.
Trump’s Missed Opportunities
Despite the three against one format of the debate, Trump could have knocked Harris out the race. He missed opportunities to ignore her goading and systematically expose her. It was disappointing that he took the bait so many times when Harris’s taunting became ugly and personal, but he is only human and the relentless, ruthless efforts to destroy him take their toll. He allowed himself to be deflected from the key issues, and, hampered by dishonest moderators who would not do their jobs, his efforts to introduce a wide range of important topics did not provide the American people the logical flow of arguments they deserved. She got under his skin.
Nothing Has Changed
There are two major candidates for President of the United States. Each has a significant track record. We know who they are from firsthand experience. They embrace vastly different ideologies and our lives will be very different depending on who is the President. Corrupt media continues to be the greatest threat to our freedom. Corruption is widespread throughout political parties, career politicians, and government agencies. Government does not work for the people.
Trump is the only President in our lifetime who did exactly what he said he was going to do when elected. He presents a greater threat than ever to all those across the political spectrum who profit from the status quo. He now has an insider’s knowledge of the “deep state” and won’t be timid about undertaking the massive, disruptive changes the people are demanding. He is forming a coalition of highly skilled people who love freedom and have the expertise and courage to help him. Elon Musk, Bobby Kennedy Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard come armed and ready to lead efforts to address ineffective government bureaucracy, corrupt food and pharmaceutical industries and our appetite for endless war. They are acting out of love of country and seek no payment for their work.
The 2024 Presidential De-Bait is in the history books. We move forward with steely resolve to re-elect Trump. We understand our flawed Wisconsin election system will be a target for the cheating that will be required for a Harris win. Our engagement and vigilance are critical. “Make America Great Again” is not a campaign slogan. It is the work we have to do.
