Why I’m Voting ‘YES’ on the Constitutional Amendments

I’m voting ‘yes’ on both election-related constitutional amendment questions on the April 2 ballot.

These measures reinforce the authority of our local election officials to oversee our local elections. The amendments will protect local election officials against out-of-state special interests who disrupt the election process by claiming to “run the show.”

The election officials I’ve spoken with say they don’t need or welcome “help” from “experts” who don’t live in the state, haven’t been vetted or verified or trained, and haven’t managed an election here before. They understand that outside money for funding our elections will always come with strings attached – strings they don’t want or need.

It may be true that our elections have become more complex over time. The answer is not to complicate them further by turning elections over to so-called experts. Better to fix the source of complexity by getting rid of unregulated mail-in voting, same-day registration, machine (rather than paper) ballots, etc.

On March 21, Gov. Tony Evers vetoed four election-integrity bills. Voting YES on Questions 1 and 2 is the only way to ensure that every legal vote is counted this year and in the future.
