In just a few short weeks the voters of our great state will be going to the polls to vote on two important questions regarding amending the Wisconsin Constitution so that the Governor of Wisconsin will no longer have the unilateral authority to spend federal funds without the input and approval of the Legislature.
Unlike the vast majority of states, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers can unilaterally spend billions in federal funds without any approval by the Wisconsin Legislature, the branch of government that has the constitutional “power of the purse.” Using federal pandemic aid, Governor Evers spent nearly $5 billion with no oversight or accountability, with much of it going to wasteful projects or political allies.
What should be an issue of common sense, good governance and spending transparency is now being described by well-funded special-interest groups in misleading ads and mailers as a “power grab.” We know and you know that this is the furthest thing from the truth. The good news is that WILL [Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty] and IRG [Institute for Reforming Government] are teaming up to fight back against these outright lies and arm you with the facts you need to get the truth out.
Linked here is our latest “mythbusters” fact sheet that debunks several of the most frequent misleading claims we’ve heard. Secondly, we have attached some great graphics [see below] you can share on social media to encourage your social networks to “Vote Yes.” Finally, if you would like to send a letter to the editor, please feel free to reach out to me and our team would be happy to help you put something together for your local newspaper.
Thanks for reading my message and supporting our efforts to get the truth out. Remember to vote “Yes” to questions 1 & 2 on August 13!
In Liberty,
Eric
