Week six of “what we got done for you!”
We’ve made Wisconsin’s pre-adoption training process more accessible with Senate Bill 381, now 2023 Act 118.
Twenty-five hours of training is required before you become eligible to adopt a child in need of a parent. Six of these hours are currently required to be in-person, creating an unnecessary barrier to adoption.
Allowing this to be done virtually opens the door for willing adoptive parents who otherwise might have to travel across the state for training. Beyond the high price tag of the adoption process, mandating these parents take off of work, spend money on hotels, and pay other travel costs for overnights will be avoided with this simple change. Interactive training can be done live, virtually.
My staff and I were also happy to meet with:
- Medical College of Wisconsin
- Wisconsin Beverage Association
- Manawa Mayor Mike Frazier
- Winnebago County Crisis Center
- Wylewood Christian School
Next week, I look forward to many more meetings in our area!
