Fall Session Continues
This week, the Senate Committee on Health took action on several items this week. Since the 2023-2024 legislative session began, the Senate Committee on Health has moved over 100 items out of the Committee; this includes executive appointments, bills and administrative rules. I look forward to next week’s floor session to move a lot of these bills through the senate.
I also joined the Committees on Universities and Revenue and Mental Health for executive sessions.
My staff and I enjoyed meetings with:
- ESTHER
- Wisconsin Soft Drink Association
- Americans for Prosperity
- Wisconsin Bankers Association
- Meta Platforms
- Create Wisconsin
- Superior Ambulance

Wisconsin’s Earn While You Learn Health Care Programs
Wisconsin’s healthcare sector, like many other facets of our economy, is struggling to find workers. According to a report from the Department of Workforce Development, Wisconsin could find itself 20,000 nurses short by the year 2040.
WisCaregiver Careers is funded through the federal and state government which covers the cost of obtaining a CNA certification for Wisconsin Nursing Homes. There is a $500 bonus for those who remain employed for six months.
SSM Health is a Catholic non-profit healthcare system that covers the Midwest. This program offers CNA training which is open to the public.
UW Health offers a registered apprenticeship for medical assistants. Apprentices that complete this program will then be eligible to take the Clinical Certified Medical Assistant credentialing program.
A recent Post-Crescent article further explains more programs and organizations that offer free or low-cost programs to train more health care professionals! Read more here.
