In our floor session this week, the Wisconsin State Assembly unanimously passed AJR 82 condemning the barbaric massacre and grotesque acts by Hamas, a United States-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization, upon civilians during the Jewish holidays of Shemini Atzeret/Simchat Torah in Israel.

Countless civilians are confirmed dead, missing, or displaced, including United States citizens and Wisconsinites.

Please take a moment to remember the innocent civilians killed and pray for a resolution to this bloodshed.

Regulation & Licensing Committee

On Wednesday, the Regulation and Licensing Committee heard and passed my bill, AB 144.

AB 144
AB 144 involves Prospective Wisconsin healthcare licensees, notably new graduates, who continue to experience long processing delays, limiting their ability to provide quality healthcare to their patients or denying them the opportunity to even obtain a job.

As a way to expedite getting these trained and educated professionals into the workforce out of college within the scope of the degree they paid thousands of dollars to achieve, LRB-1486 requires the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) to grant preliminary credentials to individuals who recently completed the requirements to obtain a healthcare credential, submitted a license application, and have been engaged by a qualifying healthcare employer.

Both the individual and the employer must attest to DSPS that the prospective licensee meets all the requirements for the corresponding credential. The preliminary credential becomes effective upon the submission of the attestation by the health care employer or at a later specified date. The preliminary credential expires on the date that the application for the permanent or training credential is granted or denied.

Colleges and Universities Committee

The Wisconsin Assembly Colleges & Universities Committee heard testimony on AB 378, which relates to designating University of Wisconsin and technical college sports and athletic teams based on the sex of the participants.
On Tuesday, the Colleges & Universities Committee held a public hearing and heard testimony on AB 378.

Assembly Bill 378
Relating to: designating University of Wisconsin and technical college sports and athletic teams based on the sex of the participants.

Title IX is a civil rights law that was created in 1972 by the federal government recognizing the biological distinction between men and women, and the need to assure women and girls are not discriminated against in educational programs or activities, codifying equal opportunities to compete on a level playing field in sports.

The “Save Women’s Sports Act” is based on this biological science. It safeguards equality and protects the athletic excellence of girls and women competing in sports, while also upholding Title IX’s original intent based on the general biological distinction between men and women athletes based on sex.

Additionally, this proposal assures all athletes, male, female, and nonbinary are in a category that provides them the greatest desired safety as well as opportunity to perform on a level, competitive playing field.
