Congratulations, Eagle Scouts!
A couple weekends ago, I had the opportunity to attend an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony in Mishicot for Eli Benfield, Jacob Benfield, and Nicholas Parma. To become an Eagle Scout, it takes years of hard work, dedication, and diligence. It was an honor to be able to witness such a special moment in these young men’s lives. Congratulations gentlemen!

In this e-update, we are going to continue moving forward with session from February 20th.
AB 633 allows a person to hunt a wild animal with an airgun in a season open to hunting that animal with a firearm.
This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 115.

AB 638 requires a school board to comply with a school district resident’s written request to inspect a textbook, curriculum, or instructional material within 14 days.

AB 505 protects financial institutions by including circumstances where a reasonable person would believe use of force was imminent in the statute that criminalizes using force or threat of force to take property from a financial institution.
This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 133.
AB 542 requires the Department of Justice (DOJ) to award grants of up to $325,000 to schools to acquire proactive firearm detection software and provides $4,000,000 in the 2023–25 fiscal biennium for the grants.
I voted no on this legislation because, as written, some of the technology these grants would provide would allow full-body scanners like they have in airports in schools that would run all the time. I believe this violates the 4th Amendment and emits radiation at levels that are dangerous if there is long-term exposure.
AB 622 makes three minor changes to how business improvement districts (BIDs) and neighborhood improvement districts (NIDs) work.
AB 632 defines muzzle-loading firearm as “a firearm that shoots a projectile loaded exclusively from the muzzle.”

AB 644 creates an alternative open enrollment application procedure for pupils who have a parent employed as a teacher in a nonresident school district.
AB 671 allows an annuitant who retired as a “protective occupation participant” to return to work for an employer who participates in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) and elect not to become a participating employee for WRS purposes and continue to receive their annuity instead.
AB 678 designates a portion of Interstate Highway 90 from the Wisconsin-Minnesota state line, easterly and westerly, to the intersection with Interstate Highway 94 in Monroe County as the “Ho-Chunk (Hoocąk) World War II Code Talkers Memorial Highway.”

AB 689 would create a pay for performance structure for future state-funded grants to organizations addressing homelessness.
AB 736 creates a Palliative Care Council through the Department of Health Services to promote high quality palliative care, and improve awareness and access to this specialized type of medical care.
AB 741 requires the Department of Children and Families to establish a program to award grants for the provision of books to young children.

AB 760 implements a number of recommendations from the Ethics Commission (the commission) regarding the operations of the commission and the laws that it administers.

AB 772 changes the National Guard Tuition Reimbursement program to an up-front payment directly to the guard member’s school.
This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 117.
AB 799 would raise the non-resident archer/crossbow hunting license from $162.25 to $197.25.
This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 99.
AB 808 specifies that county bridge aid may be used to fund the local share of a local bridge program project and that, if county bridge aid is used for this purpose, the Department of Transportation (DOT) supervises the project.
This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 162.
I-41 Project Update
The following is a project update from the Department of Transportation regarding the I-41 corridor.
Beginning May 6, 2024, Rose Hill Road over I-41 in Little Chute will be closed to traffic and reconstructed. Drivers can expect a few nights of full closures on I-41 during demolition, and traffic will be detoured using County OO, WIS 55, and Edgewood Drive. Area residents may experience nighttime noise during the overnight demolition operations. In Outagamie County, our next round of scheduled closures will be at the County N interchange in July. In Brown County, French Road/Southbridge Roads are scheduled to close between Creamery Road and Lawrence Drive this fall.

Friday, May 10th, and Saturday, May 11th, will be the Mishicot Village-Wide Rummage Sale. On Friday, it will go from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday, it will go from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, May 11th, will be a Brat Fry at the Mishicot Cenex from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, May 11th, will be the Kellnersville First Responders Fundraiser at Kellnersville Fire and Rescue (807 Main St, Kellnersville), starting at 3 p.m.
Saturday, May 18th, the Maribel Sportsman’s Club (8824 WI-147, Maribel) will be hosting a Cancer Benefit (Trap Shoot) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Saturday, May 18th, will be a Native American Dance Performance in Kaukauna (1313 Augustine St.) starting at 12:30 p.m.
