Testifying in Favor of Tax-Free Retirement
This week, the legislation I authored to create a tax-free retirement in Wisconsin received a public hearing in the Joint Committee on Finance. I testified with my colleague Senator Wimberger about how this bill would benefit Wisconsinites for generations to come. I’ve heard from folks all over the state about how this change would allow them to afford to stay in Wisconsin during retirement, especially as the cost of living has risen in our state in recent years. This proposal would result in real relief – saving retired filers an average of $1,582 per year. For more specific details on the proposal, see my full press release here.
Meeting with Credit Union Folks
Folks from the Wisconsin Credit Union League visited my office this week to discuss the issues that are important to them. They talked specifically about 2023 Act 60, which would require 0.5 credits of financial literacy education in high schools across the state. I was proud to support this bill as it made its way through the Legislature. I believe Wisconsin students will reap the benefits of financial literacy in their post-high school years as a result of this law. They also discussed the need to enact legislation that will help protect seniors from financial abuse, and how Wisconsin can work to better curb predatory lending practices in the state. These meetings are valuable to me as a state legislator, and help me make decisions that are best for the people in my community. It was great to hear from credit unions in the 4th Assembly District!
